TROGIR
ITINERARY
We’ll start at the North Gate, once the main entrance into the old part of the town protected by town walls. This takes us back at the beginning, in the 3rd century BC when the Greeks came to this area. You’ll hear an interesting story of how the town got its name, what the population is and why it’s called Little Venice.
Through the North Gate we’ll proceed into the part of the town called Pasike, see the birth house of the famous Croatian nobleman and find out why his name is still important in the town. You’ll see beautiful Kamerlengo fortress and hear the story of the French and their importance for the town at the beginning of the 19th century.
The Venetians were here for the longest period of our history so it’s obvious that you’re going to listen about them the most. All the most beautiful buildings were built during their period. You’ll also hear an interesting story about Venetian lions and why you can see only one in the town today.
We’ll end in the heart of the town – on the square surrounded by the most important buildings, leaving the true gem of the town for the last part – the Cathedral of St Lawrence with the famous Portal of master Radovan. You’ll see the exterior of the Cathedral. If you decide to go in, you’ll see completely new world inside with the chapel of St John, patron Saint of the town, leaving you breathless!
* ADRESS: Ul. Gradska vrata 8, 621220, Trogir
* Possible pick up at the hotel if you are situated in the town
Did you know that Trogir was named the most beautiful town-island in the world by National Geographic? It has been on the UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites since 1997. Trogir was founded by the Greek colonists so it’s one of the oldest towns on the Croatian coast. Did you know that it has many nicknames? Some of them are Town museum, Little Venice, and personally my favourite – Town of the happy moment. You will hear all of this and so much more if you decide to come on a walking tour with me.

ITINERARY
The tour starts at the waterfront Riva right in front of the bronze model of the city. You’ll find out why Diocletian has decided to build the palace right here and why he chose to leave the throne of the Roman Empire.
We proceed into the cellars of the palace, going through the southern gate into the substructures which are the oldest part of the palace. We continue our tour visiting the southern part of the Palace with the private chambers of Diocletian, through Vestibule to the Peristyle square in front of the cathedral. Vestibule was the entrance into the emperor’s private chambers and today it’s the place where you can enjoy the sounds of traditional Dalmatian folk songs sung by Acapella singers. The emperor’s mausoleum and the Jupiter’s temple are also included in the tour. Mausoleum was converted into the cathedral and the temple into the baptistery.
Along the way towards the Golden Gate you’ll also hear the stories about contemporary Split and life in the city nowadays. Outside the palace’s walls you’ll see People’s and Fruit Squares too.
Our tour ends back at the Riva where you can then relax, take a walk or enjoy a drink always admiring the views of the sea and the islands in the distance.
* ADRESS: Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda 23, Split
* Possible pick up at the hotel if you are situated in the old part of the town
Did you know that the locals call it the most beautiful city in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 is the true gem of the Adriatic coast. Split is more than 1700 years old. Back at the end of the 3rd century, Roman emperor Diocletian decided to build a huge palace for his retirement days here in the heart of his native Dalmatia.

ŠIBENIK
ITINERARY
After a scenic drive to Šibenik we start the tour at on the promenade at the entrance to the old part of the town. The foundation of Šibenik lies on St. Michael’s fortress on top of the hill from where it developed as the ground dictated. Walking through the streets of Šibenik you’ll hear very interesting stories about the history of the town and its people. This is the town which had a lot of noble families who liked to show off and let everyone know how important and rich they were. All of this was shown on corners of their houses. People of Šibenik have always appreciated good food and drinks. They liked it so much that they had a street called Fat Street and if you wanted to know what kind of wine you could drink in one of the taverns you only had to take a look at their windows. As usual, we leave the best for the last. We finish our tour visiting the Cathedral of St. James which is the masterpiece of Juraj Dalmatinac. The cathedral was built of stone without any of the binding material, the system similar to building blocks. I always strongly recommend going in because it would be a shame not seeing such beauty from the close ending the visit in the most unique part of the cathedral – baptistery.
Did you know that the story of Šibenik is completely different from those you’ll hear in other Dalmatian towns. Unlike Trogir and Split which were built much earlier, Šibenik is the youngest Dalmatian town first mentioned by the Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV in 1066. It’s also quite unique as it has two monuments protected by UNESCO: St. Nicholas’ Fort and the cathedral of St. James which is a real masterpiece of architecture.

SALONA
ITINERARY
We start the tour in front of the map of Salona talking about the beginnings of the town and then we stop at the entrance of Manastirine talking about the archaeologist who was the one who made it possible for us to know what we know about Salona today. We proceed to Tusculum where don Frane Bulić worked during the excavations of Salona together with the beautiful garden where he used to relax. We’ll go down to the walls of Salona from where you’ll have beautiful views of the ruins of the town. Don’t miss the chance to see quite impressive ruins of Episcopal centre, Forum or Amphitheatre and hear beautiful stories of what kind of life people had at the time enjoying their everyday life in Roman thermae.
Did you know that Salona is the cradle of Christianity set between Split and Trogir. It was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia where Diocletian himself was born. Salona was a huge, powerful town with 40000-60000 inhabitants. It was an important place for Christianity in this area with numerous Christian martyrs killed and buried here during Diocletian’s time.

KLIS
ITINERARY
We’ll start at the bottom of the fortress where you can see the steep cliff it was built on between Kozjak and Mosor. Its position gave it the title “The key to Dalmatia” as its one eye faces the sea and another faces Zagora (the hinterland). The traces of life go back more than 2000 years ago. It was held by the Illyrian tribes and then taken over by the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire it was the seat of the Croatian kings. Its greatest significance for Croatian history dates back to the 15th century when it found itself at the crossroads of the three empires – the Ottoman Empire, the Venetian Republic and the Habsburg Monarchy. Klis was the home of the Uskoks, military units that got their name because they jumped into („uskočiti“ in Croatian) the enemy territory, robbed it and returned to their base. You’ll get the chance to enjoy beautiful views of Split and the islands as well as capture some extraordinary photos.
* ADRESS: parking in front of the Fortress or as agreed with the guide
Did you know that Klis was often called the key to Dalmatia and the heart of the medieval Croatian kingdom? It’s also referred to as Croatian Camelot – a seat of the Croatian kings. The fortress of Klis is a silent witness of tempestuous Croatian history and a witness of the battle against the Ottoman Empire. Medieval fortress of Klis is also a place where the popular Game of Thrones series was filmed.
